New Web Site to Raise Awareness for the Myanmar Crisis Has Lofty Goals

SAN DIEGO, May 9 /PRNewswire/ — Summary: With the recent devastatingcyclone in Myanmar causing an estimated 100,000 deaths and leaving over amillion people homeless, the need for relief aid is immense. Internetentrepreneurs Sharon Tucci and Steve Jones have launched the MyanmarChallenge, a grassroots effort to award awareness for humanitarian needs,with hopes of filling the need as much as possible. Setting an initial goalof having 1,000 individuals and companies take the Myanmar Challenge, Tucciand Jones hope to create the exposure and relief contributions necessary tosave thousands more victims of the cyclone.

An estimated 100,000 people have perished due to the devastatingcyclone that hit Myanmar, the largest country by geographical area inSoutheast Asia. Two Internet entrepreneurs, Sharon Tucci and Steve Jones,have risen to the call of community support by launching the MyanmarChallenge website. The objective of the site is to increase awareness ofthe situation in which millions are finding themselves without many thingswe take for granted — such as food, clean water and shelter.

The Myanmar Challenge asks companies doing business online to pledgetheir support by offering either direct donations to one of the many relieforganizations working in the affected region or by offering pledges basedon purchases made at their websites by individuals. Tucci and Jones haveset a goal of having 1,000 individuals and companies take the MyanmarChallenge.

“If each of these 1,000 individuals and companies only contribute $10each,” said Tucci, “That could potentially help save several hundred lives.That makes every minute spent on this endeavor worth it.”
