fpa Reacts To Department Of Health’s Abortion Statistics 2007, UK
June 23rd, 2008 | by admin |
Commenting on the rising numbers of abortions in the under 16 age group Julie Bentley, Chief Executive fpa said:
“Now must be the time to make sex and relationships education compulsory and taught in every school in the country. Younger women are making different choices about their lives and choosing abortion over motherhood, but education and contraceptive services will stop them becoming pregnant in the first place.”
Commenting on the rising numbers of abortion across all age groups:
“If we are serious about bringing down the numbers of abortions we need to sort out contraceptive services, give women a proper choice in contraceptive methods and modernise abortion laws so services are in line with modern clinical practices in the NHS. Too many women phone our helpline completely unaware that there are 14 different methods of contraception. Every decision maker in public health must now take strong and decisive action and make contraception their top priority.
“We welcome that more women are having an abortion earlier in pregnancy and that more women are being offered a choice of medical abortion.”
fpa (Family Planning Association) is the only registered charity working to improve the sexual health and reproductive rights of all people throughout the UK.
